Littleport is on the main Kings Lynn to Kings Cross railway line.
Years ago the railway company had a goods yard by the side of the track and the river. A huge crane unloaded the wood and food from the barges straight onto their freight trucks.
The railway dockyard was busy and employed a lot of people, even providing workmens cottages.
Things changed after the floods of 1947. The river was widened, the port eventually ceased to operate and the goods yard no longer remains.
Instead, the area is now a privately owned marina and boat yard.
